As an educator, Tom has 13 years experience teaching music at the collegiate level. He has been serving as the director of jazz combos, instructor of Theory I and Theory II labs, and instructor of acoustic and electric bass at Lafayette College.

Tom also has over 18 years experience teaching acoustic and electric bass privately. He has coached and helped his students get accepted into college jazz programs, region orchestra programs, school jazz band programs, and jazz education programs outside of school. Tom has also served as a judge for high school jazz band competitions.

In 2010, Tom had the honor of touring with the Mark Sherman/Tim Horner Quartet as a Jazz Ambassador for the U.S. State Department. Tom took part in giving 30 workshops and masterclasses at universities in Russia, South Korea, China, and the Philippines.

Since 2014, Tom has been part of the Jazz For Young People program. This is a program that is sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center that sends jazz groups to public schools throughout the NYC boroughs to bring music and historical topics in music to elementary and middle school children.
